Kevin Samuel’s double-double leads TCU to a 70-65 win over Tulsa

KANSAS CITY, MO - Kevin Samuel’s 16 points and 18 rebounds led TCU (2-0) to a 70-65 win over Tulsa (0-1) in the first round of the Hall of Fame Classic.


At the start of the first half, the Golden Hurricanes came out the gate going on a 18-5 run. Late in the first half, TCU’s defense was lazidazical. Tulsa went on an 18-8 run with 11:03 left in the half, their largest lead of the night.


However, midway in the first half the Horned Frogs caught fire and fought back hitting four straight 3-pointers and going on a 14-0 run to close out the half.


TCU was up on Tulsa 36-30 at the end of the half.


The second half was neck and neck as both teams were fighting hard. TCU controlled the boards and out-rebounded Tulsa. TCU had 16 points off second chance opportunities while Tulsa only had six points.


With under a minute left in regulation, TCU made 5 crucial free throws to steal the win. TCU went 19-30 on the night shooting 63 percent from the line.


The Horned Frogs leading scorers were Kevin Samuel with 16 points and 18 rebounds, Mike Miles with 12 points and 2 rebounds, and Francisco Farabello with 10 points and 2 rebounds.


These were the pivotal players that got the Win for TCU.


This is TCU’s third consecutive win against Tulsa.


Brandon Rachel had 19 points and 8 rebounds for the Golden Hurricanes. Embery-Simpson finished with 14 points for his first game as a Golden Huricane. Joiner finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.


TCU heads into the championship tomorrow to play Libery at 2:30 pm CST.
