FORT WORTH, TX - TCU (11-10) heads to Iowa State tonight to take on the Cyclones (2-17). The Horned Frogs beat Iowa State earlier this season 79-76 on February 9th.
TCU is coming off a 74-66 loss to No. 10 West Virginia. They are on a three game losing streak, losing to Kansas and Texas previous to West Virginia.
On Tuesday night's matchup, RJ Nembhard put up 17 points, nine assists, and four rebounds. That was his 18th straight game scoring in the double figures. Kevin Samuel had his 20th career double-double dropping 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Cyclones are having one of the worst seasons in Cyclone history. They are sitting at 2-17 and are on a 13-game losing streak. However, Iowa State does not lay down and get blown out by these teams, they put up a fight. The Cyclones have lost a handful of games by 10 points or less, and TCU previously beat them by only three points.
Their close losses are due to great play by Tyler Harris and Rasir Bolton. In their last matchup to Baylor, Harris dropped 22 points, one rebound and one assist. Bolton added 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
TCU can not look over this Iowa State team. Yes, their record is ugly but they show up to play. They have three guards that shoot in the double-figures and TCU really only has one, Nembhard. This game is going to be determined based on defense. Both teams have guards that have the ability to shoot the ball. It’s going to come down to who can play intense defense and shut down the guards that have the ability to shoot.
TCU started the season on a great run, going 9-2 in their first 11 games. Since then they have gone 2-8 in their last 10 matchups. The Horned Frogs are trying to add one more win before the Big 12 tournament. What better way than to a struggling Iowa State team? Tip off is set for 5 p.m.
